The Eccles Cake is a traditional product which originated in the town of Eccles. Eccles cakes are pastries really, but have always been referred to as cakes. Real Lancashire Eccles Cakes are handmade and consist of a mixture of the finest Vostizza currants, raisins, butter and sugar enclosed in a shell of flaky buttery pastry. The cake is round and fairly flat in appearance and packed in traditional packaging. The manufacture of Eccles Cakes is very labour intensive as each one is made by hand.
