Inspired by the land's ancient Mayan heritage, Cihuatán originates from the only distillery in El Salvador and is a 'true handcrafted' aged rum. On the nose, the approach is quite light, with a light, toasty woodiness, like a nougat encrusted with some nuts. Small splashes of citrus bring some freshness, as well as a hint of bitterness, for a relatively taut profile. With aeration, the roasting register takes on a fuller character, so the toasted wood shows a little more character. It then begins to melt gently, to develop into notes of vanilla caramel.
